Oak, cherry and maple are the hardest and most durable floors, explains HGTV. Textured-finished hardwood floors hide wear, and solid-wood flooring often lasts for decades but cannot withstand humidity, whereas engineered-wood flooring is less labor intensive to install and can be used in any room, but it cannot be refinished repeatedly like solid.
