Why is Cincinnati called the Queen City?

Cincinnati is called "The Queen City" after a May 4, 1819 article in the "Inquisitor and Cincinnati Advisor" by Ed. B. Cooke, which referred to it as the "Queen of the West." The nickname represents the pride of the residents in seeing the city experience a huge growth. The nickname is memorialized in the 1854 Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem, "Catawba Wine."

Cincinnati is located in the state of Ohio. It was first established by a group of settlers led by Colonel Robert Patterson on December 28, 1788. The settlement was located on 747 acres near the Licking River and was named Losantiville. Arthur St. Clair renamed in Cincinnati on January 4, 1790.
