What is the classification of drywood termites?

Drywood termites are classified as insects and fall into the order of Blattodea along with other termites and cockroaches. They belong to the family Kalotermitidae, which separates them from other species of termite.

Drywood termites come in different types, such as the Western and Light Western Drywood termite. These termites are not large enough to fall into the family Termitidae, into which 70 percent of all termites fall. Instead, they are described as lower termites and are significantly smaller than related species. Another defining difference is the presence of both bacteria and protozoa in their guts. This feature is not noted in larger termites.
