Clavicle piercing carries the risk of infection and excessive bleeding. The body often rejects the jewelry because it migrates across the flat area of the skin as the arm moves. The rejection can result in scarring and irritation, while the worst-case scenario includes nerve damage.

The healing time following a clavicle piercing ranges from six to eight weeks. For aftercare, a saline solution should be used to clean the pierced area twice a day. The crust around the wound should be gently removed by hand. To prevent irritation, the wound should not be exposed to soap, alcohol or antibacterial ointments.
