How do you clean alkaline battery corrosion?

To clean alkaline battery corrosion, moisten it with a weak acid, rub it with a cotton swab, and scrape away the residue. The supplies you need include newsprint, white vinegar, cotton swabs and safety gear.

Spread several sheets of newsprint over your work surface. Put on protective gloves and safety goggles, and place the corroded object on the newsprint. If there are damaged batteries in the object, remove them.

Dribble white vinegar over the corroded area, and let it work for several minutes. Dip a cotton swab in white vinegar, and gently rub it over the corrosion. Use a rubber eraser or toothpick to remove residual corrosion.
