A corroded battery compartment can be cleaned with a soft cloth and either vinegar or a mixture of baking soda and water. Wear protective gloves while cleaning the compartment.

A battery compartment can be cleaned by first removing the dry acid in the compartment using a soft cloth. After most of the dry acid is removed, use a mixture of baking soda and water to remove any remaining acid. Be careful not to have any of the solution enter the device as it is being cleaned. Use a separate clean cloth dampened with water to remove any remaining cleaning solution. Let the device dry completely before use.
