To clean mold from a refrigerator, clean out the refrigerator, and mix baking soda and mild detergent with lukewarm water. Clean the inside of the refrigerator using a washcloth dipped into the baking soda mixture.
- Remove food from the refrigerator
Remove all items from the refrigerator, including food in the crisper drawers, side compartments and freezer. You can unplug your refrigerator, but this may cause frozen food to thaw too soon by lowering the freezer temperature.
- Make the baking soda mixture
Combine 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of mild detergent with 1 quart of warm water. Stir the mixture thoroughly, making sure that the baking soda is completely dissolved. Fill another container with clean warm water.
- Clean the refrigerator
Dip a clean washcloth into the baking soda mixture. Wring out the washcloth, then begin wiping down the interior walls of the refrigerator. Dip the dirty washcloth into the container of clean water, and wring it out again. Wipe down the crisper drawers and side compartments with a separate clean washcloth. Replace the container of warm water occasionally. When you finish, place an open box of baking soda on a shelf in the back of the refrigerator to control odors.
