The materials needed to clean refrigerator coils include a coil brush and a broom. Unplug the refrigerator, and look for the coils. If they're on the top or at the bottom, remove the base grille or grille panel first. Use the brush to remove dirt and dust from the coils.
- Unplug the refrigerator
Turn the refrigerator off, and unplug the power cord before moving the refrigerator away from the wall. This step is important to avoid accidental electric shocks while cleaning.
- Locate the condenser coils
The condenser coils are located either under the refrigerator, behind the base grille, on top or at the back. Once the coils are located, remove any protective barrier. If the coils are at the bottom, remove the base grille. If the coils are at the top, raise the grille panel. If they're at the back, move the refrigerator farther away from the wall.
- Brush off the dirt from the coils
Using the refrigerator coil brush, wipe off the dust, dirt and anything else that has accumulated on the condenser coils. Use gloves for better protection from the sharp condenser fins.
- Remove the dirt from the floor
Sweep off all the dirt using a broom or a vacuum cleaner before placing the refrigerator back in its spot and plugging it back in.
