How does one clean a refrigerator door seal?

Warm water and a soft cloth are used to safely clean food remnants from refrigerator gaskets. Household cleaners containing bleach, ammonia, detergent or petroleum distillates may damage the rubber gaskets.

Food spills that land on the refrigerator gasket sometimes cause damage to the rubber. Sticky food bonds the gasket to the refrigerator, causing it to tear when pulled apart. This forces the owner to replace the gasket to ensure the unit seals properly.

Refrigerator owners should wipe down the gaskets on a regular basis or whenever something spills in the refrigerator. Spills and stains occur on all areas of the gasket, including the lower portion where spilled food may end up.
