Remove oil stains from concrete by covering them in cat litter, sweeping up the cat litter, covering the stains with cola, rinsing with water, and then washing the stains with a mixture of bleach, laundry detergent and hot water. Use an ammonia free detergent to avoid hazardous fumes.
- Cover the oil stain with cat litter
Use inexpensive clay cat litter to cover the stain. Use your shoe to grind the clay into the oil stain.
- Sweep away the cat litter
Use a broom and dustpan to sweep up the cat litter. Dispose of the litter as a potentially hazardous waste material. If unsure of how to discard the material, contact the local waste-management company for further directions.
- Cover the stain with cola
Pour cola on the oil stain. Use a stiff brush or broom to scrub the area. Continue to add soda to keep the area damp for at least 30 minutes. Do not allow the soda to dry.
- Rinse with water
Use water from a garden hose to rinse the soda from the concrete. A gray stain will remain on the surface.
- Remove the gray stain
Mix a cup of chlorine bleach, a cup of laundry detergent and a gallon of hot water. Pour the solution over the stain. Do not use detergents that contain ammonia. Scrub the stain with the mixture and rinse again.
