To clean a stainless steel barbecue grill without scratching it, wash down the exterior and interior with a soft cloth soaked in soapy water. Remove scorch stains with baking soda, and lift grease stains with rubbing alcohol. Use a soft cloth for drying the exterior.
- Prepare a soapy solution
Pour warm water into a bucket. Add dishwashing detergent, and agitate the mixture to create suds.
- Wipe down the exterior
Soak a soft cloth in the soapy water. Use the soaked cloth to wipe down the exterior of the barbecue grill. Follow the grain of the stainless steel. Rinse the cloth in the soapy water periodically as needed.
- Sanitize the interior
Remove the grill racks, and clean them separately with a grill brush. Wipe out the interior of the grill with a dish rag soaked in the soapy water.
- Rinse the grill
Dump out the soapy water, and replace it with a fresh mixture. Dip a clean cloth in the fresh water. Use this to wipe off the soapy water on the grill, making sure to still follow the grain of the stainless steel. Wipe out the soapy water from the interior. Use a soft towel to dry the exterior of the grill.
- Remove scorch stains
Apply Bar Keeper's friend or baking soda to a nylon scrubber. Scrub away any identifiable scorch stains. Wipe down dirty areas with a soapy rag, then rinse thoroughly.
- Eliminate grease stains
If any grease stains remain, clean them with rubbing alcohol. Wet a clean cloth with alcohol, and rub away the stain. Rinse off the alcohol for a clean shine.
