Prepare stainless-steel grill grates by seasoning new grates if the manufacturer recommends doing so. Clean the grates before cooking each time by heating the grill and scraping off any food debris with a grill brush.
- Consult the grill manual
Check the grill's manual to determine whether a new stainless-steel grate needs to be seasoned.
- Season the grate if necessary
Coat the grate with a high-heat cooking oil, such as peanut. Preheat the grill to high heat for approximately 20 minutes before turning it off and letting it cool. Rub warm grates with a light coat of oil to protect the surface.
- Buy a grill brush
Choose a grill brush that has stainless-steel bristles. It can be a T-shaped brush or a brush with a scraper.
- Preheat the grill
Preheat the grill to high heat for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before cleaning it. This helps burn off leftover food debris, making the cleaning process faster and easier.
- Scrape the grates
Scrape the stainless steel grill grate with the brush, using a back and forth motion in the direction of the grate's bars. Use the bristles or built-in scraper to remove any stuck-on clumps or to clean in-between the bars.
- Oil the grate
Lightly coat the grate with oil, or oil food before grilling to help prevent sticking.
