To clean a teak floor, sweep it, scrub it with laundry detergent and oxygen bleach, rinse the floor, dry it with towels, and apply teak oil. This 36-hour project requires rubber gloves, water, a cleaning brush, a bucket, laundry detergent, oxygen bleach, dish scouring pads, thick towels and teak oil.
- Sweep the floor
Sweep the floor with a soft, dry cleaning brush. Stroke across the grain of the wood.
- Apply laundry detergent and oxygen bleach
Pour 3/4 cup laundry detergent and 1/4 cup oxygen bleach into a bucket, and add enough warm water to fill the bucket. Put on long rubber cleaning gloves, saturate a dish scouring pad in the soap solution, and apply it to the floor. Move the pad across the grain. Saturate the floor with the cleaning solution, wait 5 minutes, and rinse it with water and a different scouring pad.
- Dry the floor
Absorb the rinsing water by blotting the floor with thick towels. Give the floor 24 hours to dry, and then inspect it. If you detect residual moisture in the corners or between the boards, give the wood additional drying time before you proceed.
- Apply teak oil
Coat the floor with teak oil according to the directions on the bottle.
