To clean a waffle iron, use a damp paper towel, a dry paper towel, and a chop stick or pencil. Use cooking oil for baked-on batter, and use a sponge and soapy water to clean all removable plates.
- Wait for the waffle iron to cool
Unplug the waffle iron, and make sure it is completely cool before you begin cleaning it to avoid injury.
- Wipe the grid plates
Once the waffle iron is cool to the touch, wipe the grid with a dry or damp paper towel. Remove any crumbs, and soak up any oil that is left behind.
- Clean the exterior
Wipe down the exterior of the waffle iron with a damp paper towel.
- Clean within the grid
Every few cleanings, clean the grid of the waffle iron with a chop stick wrapped in a paper towel. You can also use a pencil in place of the chopstick.
- Use cooking oil
For caked-on spills, apply a few drops of cooking oil. Let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe the soiled area with a damp paper towel.
- Wash removable plates
Wash all removable plates with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge.
- Dry the waffle iron
Dry the waffle iron completely before putting it away.
