What is the climate like in Peru?

Peru has a tropical Amazon jungle to the east, a coastal desert to the west and the Andes mountains in the middle of the country. The Andes mountains are more than 11,400 feet tall, and overnight temperatures can drop well below freezing.

The hot months along the coast are from December to March, and winter lasts from June to September. It usually does not rain in Lima, the capital city, or most of the coast, except for Tumbes and Piura, which have tropical climates. Peru is a popular tourist destination where people can explore snow-capped mountains, tropical beaches or quiet forests.
