Do Cocker Spaniels shed?

Vetstreet considers Cocker Spaniels to be moderate shedders. Their fur takes a lot of brushing, bathing and trimming to keep it shiny and free of tangles.

Vetstreet recommends that Cocker Spaniels with long hair should be groomed once a week, possibly by a professional groomer. Cocker Spaniels which have their hair kept short in puppy cuts should be groomed every two weeks. Toenails should be trimmed every two weeks to avoid long nails that can catch on furniture and tear off. Cocker Spaniels are susceptible to ear infections, so owners should check their ears every week. Healthy Cocker Spaniel ears have a bright pink color and do not give off any odor.
