What is combed yarn?

Combed yarn is yarn that has undergone a time-intensive combing process that makes its fibers straight and ensures that the fibers run parallel to each other. The combing process makes the yarn stronger and more compact. In comparison, corded yarn is less costly and less suitable for weaving.
Combing separates short fibers from long fibers. This process makes the yarn smoother. There are two methods used to comb yarn, linear and circular. After the yarn has been combed it often undergoes a process called gilling, which makes the yarn suitable for spinning.
Yarn is carded before it is combed.. Carding is a process that cleans the fibers and intermingles them together.
