Common Aztec traditions include mandatory education, large families with multiple wives and competitive architecture. The competitive architecture refers to the Aztecs competing against each other to build the biggest and best buildings. While the common buildings were more elaborate, their homes were plain with one big room.
The Aztecs believed that human sacrifice and blood were necessary for the world to continue. They obtained the sacrifice from the victims of their various wars and battles. During peace times, the Aztecs would essentially initiate a battle to collect new sacrifice victims. Human sacrifices were not uncommon during this time period, and many civilizations did this.
