Power steering pump failure has been known to occur on Ford vehicles from the years 2008 to 2013. The problem occurs from an unknown electrical issue on the vehicles' computers that confuses the torque sensors. It has resulted in several automotive accidents, according to Beier Law.
The problem in the computer programming causes the pump to stop working. These hiccups cause the vehicle to expectantly lose power steering, making the vehicle hard to maneuver.
In 2014, Ford recalled over 900,000 vehicles experiencing the same problem. Ford required its dealerships to scan the ECU for any electrical problems and replace the steering rack assembly if necessary.
