The most common type of cerebral palsy among adults is spastic cerebral palsy. According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 80 percent of all people with cerebral palsy have spastic cerebral palsy.
Symptoms of spastic cerebral palsy include extremely tight muscles that do not stretch, joint contracture (in which joints do not open all the way), muscle weakness and paralysis. The most severe symptom that can affect spastic CP patients is quadriplegia, which affects the arms, legs and face. Extreme cases of spastic CP-induced quadriplegia can also result in learning disabilities, seizures and severe problems with speech, hearing and vision, states MedlinePlus.
