How common are woolly coated Siberian huskies?

The frequency of the long or woolly coat in the Siberian husky is unknown, but it is rarer than the standard short coat. It is caused by a recessive gene, meaning a dog must inherit a gene for long hair from both parents to express the trait.
The normal coat of the Siberian husky consists of a soft undercoat and a straight, smooth coat of guard hairs. A long or shaggy outer coat is a fault under the breed standard, as long hair does not shed snow properly and takes longer to dry, traits that are negatives for a working sled dog. Woolly coated Siberian huskies require much more extensive grooming than those which have the normal coat.
