What is a company registration number?

A company registration number is a company identification number assigned by the Federal Trade Commission. The registration number, or RN, can be used instead of a company name on product tags and labels.
Companies that typically use a registration number include those that manufacture, distribute, import, export or sell textiles, fur and wool materials and products. Companies are not required to obtain a registration number, though one can be requested from the FTC. Any company that requests a registration number must be located or at least have headquarters in the United States. Foreign companies cannot apply for RNs with the FTC.
