What are compression shorts?

Compression shorts are shorts that are tight and form-fitting, most often made from a material similar to spandex. These shorts, along with other compression wear, are used by athletes to prevent chafing and help stimulate blood flow to specific parts of the body.
Compression shorts fit the body and help decrease friction between the legs, which prevents chafing from occurring. The shorts also wick away sweat, allowing the athlete to feel more comfortable and cooler, allowing for better performance. An Australian study of rugby players determined that wearing compression shorts helps stimulate blood flow, which slows the onset of fatigue and lactic acid buildup.
