Computer-aided manufacturing, commonly referred to as CAM, is used to create machined parts for a number of purposes, including orthopedic implants and vehicle powertrain systems. Many manufacturers in a wide variety of industries rely on computer-aided manufacturing to produce high-quality parts for their customers.

Computer-aided manufacturing relies on industrial computer systems with a range of specialized software applications to create parts. Products created in this fashion generally have a much higher quality standard due to the near-perfection afforded by a computer. Rather than relying on a machine operator's eyesight alone for turning and manufacturing a part, the computer system is able to build parts with very minute details.
