Computer peripherals are devices that generally attach to a computer externally and are not completely necessary to the computer's core functions. Some examples of peripherals are mice, scanners, printers and speakers.

Almost anything that connects to a computer's core processor and memory can be considered a peripheral, such as keyboards, monitors and hard drives. Other examples of peripherals are webcams, gamepads, joysticks, projectors and CD and DVD drives. Peripherals are usually connected to the computer via standardized ports. Some examples of common port standards include USB, FireWire, HDMI, VGA, and serial and parallel ports. Some peripherals are also capable of being connected wirelessly via Bluetooth.
