What is considered obese?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an adult with a body mass index of 30 or higher is considered obese. For children of the same sex and age, a BMI at or above the 95th percentile is considered obese.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that an adult who is 5 feet 9 inches tall and who weighs 203 pounds or more has a BMI of 30 or higher and is therefore obese. However, KidsHealth points out that BMI is an imperfect measure of body fat because some muscular people may have higher BMIs while not being overweight.
