Examples of some of the best science fiction books of all time include "The Fountain Trilogy" by Isaac Asimov and "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. These books are at the top of National Public Radio's list of Top 100 Science Fiction and Fantasy Novels.

"The Fountain Trilogy" is about a group of psychologists who starts a colony that encourages and preserves art, science and technology. "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is about Arthur Dent, a man who ends up travelling around the galaxy and meeting aliens. Other top science fiction novels are "Dune" by Frank Herbert and "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card.
