Random severe headaches, those that change in pattern, increase in pain with movement or result in eye pain or temple tenderness are especially dangerous, explain Harvard Medical School experts. Patients should also seek medical attention when headaches are accompanied by neurological symptoms or result in mental function or personality change.
Tension, cluster and migraine headaches are the most common types. Headaches may be due to head trauma, sinus problems, high blood pressure, exercise or occur as a symptom of medicine use; individuals taking medication with headaches that occur at least 10 days per month could be experiencing medication overuse headaches, according to Harvard Medical school.
