Jerusalem is situated where three of the seven continents meet: Asia, Africa and Europe. It is the largest city in Israel, which is located in Western Asia.

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, located in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. In 2009, it recorded a population of 791,000, which pales in comparison to Israel's largest city, Tel Aviv, with a population of over 3.8 million. Jerusalem is considered the birthplace of the three major world religions: Islam, Judaism and Christianity. In May 1948, the United Nations recognized Israel as its own country in the Middle East.
