Corn is not classified as a carbohydrate but as a grain. Corn is more commonly thought of as a vegetable, but it is a grass plant with leaves and very large seeds, according to About.com.
One-half cup of raw corn kernels contains 18 grams of carbohydrates, 89 calories and 3 grams of fiber. A small ear of corn contains about 20 grams of carbohydrates, and a large ear of corn contains about 27 grams. Corn is high in carbohydrates because it's a whole grain, but the frozen and canned varieties contain slightly fewer carbohydrates than fresh corn. Corn is good nutritional source of thiamin, folate, vitamin C and niacin.
