What is the cost of residential garbage pickup in New York City?

By Forinfos - 15/12/2025 - 0 comments

Currently, there is no fee for residential garbage pickup in New York City, as of 2015. The money to pay for garbage disposal comes from taxes. At $251 a ton, or $500 per household, New York City garbage collection is the most expensive in the country.

To deal with the city's high cost of garbage collection, some watchdog groups are advocating a pay-as-you-throw system like the ones used in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. This system would charge residents a fee based on the amount of trash they throw out. These charges could range from $1.50 per 30-gallon bag to $18 a month.
