Tibet is located in the country of China, where it is known as the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is located to the south and west of the Central China Plain, to the east of the Kashmir Region of India, and to the north of Nepal, India and Bhutan

Most of Tibet is part of the Tibetan Plateau, an area that includes a large portion of the Himalayan mountains, including the tallest peak, Mount Everest. The region is about 474,300 square miles in area, with a population of over 3 million people in 2010, giving it the low density of 6 people per square mile. Its capital is Lhasa.
