The city of Amarillo serves as the county seat of Potter County. Parts of the city also extend south into Randall County. Potter County occupies roughly 908 square miles of the central Texas Panhandle and is neighbored by Oldham, Moore and Carson Counties to the west, north and east.

Amarillo rests along Interstate 40, about 285 miles east of Albuquerque, N.M. and 245 miles west of Oklahoma City, Okla. Attractions in and around the Panhandle's largest city include the American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame & Museum, English Field Air & Space Museum and Don Harrington Discovery Center and Space Theater.'
