The term "courtesy clerk" most commonly refers to a bagger at a supermarket or grocery store. This position focuses on decreasing the time that customers spend during the checkout process. Courtesy clerks are often referred to as "bag boys" or "bag girls."
The main job duties of a courtesy clerk are to bag groceries and help the cashier unload groceries from a customer's cart. Courtesy clerks may also be required to take groceries to the customer's car. Courtesy clerks can sometimes be asked to check prices on items, return items to their proper locations in the store and help keep the store clean.
