How do you create a .ZIP file?

Open File Explorer, select the file or folder to zip, click Share, and then click Zip to create a zip file. This is a common method used for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1. Files or folders are zipped, or compressed, to save space.

1. Find the Search box

   Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and click Search. If using a mouse, point the cursor to the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click Search from the drop-down menu.

2. Find File Explorer

   Type "file explorer" in the search box, and click on Enter. Then, click on File Explorer.

3. Find and zip the file or folder

   Select the folder you wish to zip. Click Share, and then click Zip. A new compressed folder is created in the same location, with the same name as the original file and a ".zip" extension.
