Are there crocodiles in Florida?

There are crocodiles found in Florida, but only in the southern part. However, the American crocodile species, the biggest of all crocodile species, is endangered and has a small population in Florida relative to its numbers in Central America, the upper part of South America and the Caribbean.

Poaching and loss of habitat are to blame for the crocodile's endangered status. The American crocodile can be as long as 20 feet, but the ones found in the United States typically have a length of less than 15 feet. American crocodiles can weigh as much as a ton and live for an average of around 70 years in the wild.
