A "crown of thorn" tattoo depicts a crown made out of thorns. It is a Christian symbol intended to represent the crown of thorns worn by Jesus while being crucified. It is said to be a symbol of death, resurrection, salvation and sacrifice.
This tattoo design is most commonly worn as an armband or as a anklet. It can also be worn around a finger as a ring-type tattoo. In uncommon instances, the crown of thorns may be worn as a circle on a flat portion of the anatomy. Sometimes, a tattoo includes a head wearing the crown of thorns.
