What is a CT urogram?

A CT urogram is a computed tomography scan of the urinary tract, according to WebMD. The scan utilizes X-rays to take detailed pictures of the kidneys, ureters and bladder. CT urograms are used to detect bladder stones, kidney stones and blockages of the urinary tract.

According to Naples Diagnostic Imaging Center, a CT urogram is often used to follow the treatment of cancers of the urinary tract and can also reveal congenital abnormalities.

Naples Diagnostic Imaging Center explains that patients must avoid eating for four hours prior to the exam, but there is no restriction on water intake. The exam takes only about 15 minutes to complete.
