As of 2015, there is no cure for alopecia, according to WebMD. However, it is possible to treat the disease and stimulate a person's hair to grow back.
Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder in which a person's immune system incorrectly attacks a person's hair follicles, causing hair loss. One of the most common treatments for the condition is corticosteroids, states WebMD. The medicine can either be given as an injection in the scalp or taken orally. Another treatment option is topical immunotherapy. Introducing allergens in the scalp causes inflammation, which may trigger a person's hair to grow back. Minoxidil is another effective treatment, which is applied topically for a period of 12 weeks.
