Who is the current president of Iraq?

As of 2014, the president of Iraq is Jalal Talabani, who has held this position since 2005. As of May 2014, he has been undergoing treatment in Germany after suffering a stroke in December 2012.
Talabani is the sixth president in the country's history and the first non-Arab to hold the position. He was elected in April 2005, according to the BBC. Before becoming president, Talabani founded the Kurdish political party Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and was a member of the Interim Iraq Governing Council after Saddam Hussein was overthrown. He has been a prominent campaigner for Kurdish rights in Iraq since the 1960s.
