What are custom dog houses?

Custom dog houses are outdoor shelters for dogs that are custom-built rather than mass-produced. Mass-produced commercial dog houses, such as the popular Igloo-style houses, are usually made out of plastic. Custom-made dog houses are usually made out of wood, either by the dog's owner or by a speciality business.

One advantage of building a custom-made dog house is being able to select a style and color to match the residence. Dog houses can also be designed to be more appropriate for the local climate. For example, houses in hot climates can be air-conditioned and houses in cold climates can be heated and heavily insulated.
