What is a D.E. filter pool?

A D.E. filter pool uses diatomaceous earth to filter pool water. Diatomaceous earth is sedimentary rock composed of the skeletons of microscopic, sponge-like organisms called diatoms. D.E filters trap particles smaller than the naked eye can see, and they are the most efficient pool filters on the market.

D.E filter powder is added to a D.E. filter after backwashing. It is the powder that does the filtering.

Besides pool filtering, diatomaceous earth has many common uses. It kills insects by causing their exoskeletons to dehydrate. It is used for grain storage and as a feed supplement for livestock. Diatomaceous earth can be purchased at hardware stores, pool supply stores and feed supply stores.
