Clean your swimming pool filter by removing all elements and rinsing them. Next, soak the elements in a cleaner. Finally rinse with an acidic solution and reassemble.
- Remove filter elements
Taking apart your filter elements involves different steps, depending on the type. It is best to follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you no longer have the manufacturer's instructions, Pool Supply World offers an online resource to find your pool filter.
- Rinse the elements
Use a garden hose to remove dirt and debris from the elements. Make sure you rinse all sides. You may also use specialized filter rinsers, such as Filter Flosser or Water Wand.
- Soak the elements
Find a large trash can or bucket to easily contain all of the elements. Next, you may use a filter cleaner or dishwasher detergent mixed with water. Soak the filter for 1 to 10 hours. Finally, dip and shake the element to further loosen the debris. If there is algae attached to the filter, remove it by soaking it in muriatic acid mixed with water.
- Reassemble the filter
Remove the filter from the solution, rinse it and reassemble it. You may also add silicon-based lubricant to the o-ring to extend the pool filter's lifespan.
