Where do dandelions grow best?

Dandelions, found in all locations of the northern temperate zone, grow best in areas that are sunny and moist. They are perennial, herbaceous plants and are likely native to Asia and Europe but can also be found in Turkey, Italy, Poland, India and the United States.

Dandelions primarily grow in forests, gardens and fields but also thrive in more unforgiving environments, such as wastelands, burned forests, avalanche sites and high alpine elevations. Seeds of the dandelion plant were intentionally brought to America by European settlers and have also been transported across continents and oceans by other humans. The seeds disperse quickly in the wind, making it difficult to control the plants from spreading once established.
