Some dangerous carcinogens in cigarettes are arsenic, cadmium, formaldehyde, benzene and acrolein. In addition to containing substances that cause cancer, cigarettes contain an incredibly addictive substance called nicotine.
Arsenic is used in rat poison, and inhaling this substance makes smokers more susceptible to cancer. The chemical cadmium is used in the creation of batteries and is linked to lung and prostate cancer. Formaldehyde and acrolein are used in preserving dead specimens and are also linked to lung cancer. Benzene is used in making dyes and synthetic rubber and causes cancer in humans.
Cigarette smoke is largely responsible for over 90 percent of lung cancer cases.
