According to the National Park Service, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the corner of 7th and Market Streets in a home known as the "Declaration House." Jefferson rented two, second-floor rooms in which he drafted the document for presentation to the Continental Congress.
One of the second-floor bedrooms and the parlor have been recreated for historical purposes and include recreated furnishings and items that the young Virginia delegate Jefferson owned, such as his lap desk and swivel chair. The property and exhibits also include a short move, and are maintained by the United States National Park Service.
