Where is the deepest hole dug by humans?

As of 2014, the deepest hole ever dug by humans is in the Chayvo oil field off the northeast coast of Sakhalin island in eastern Russia. It is 12,376 meters deep, or approximately 7.5 miles. It is called the Sakhalin 1 project by the driller, Exxon Neftegas Ltd.

Prior to the Sakhalin 1 project, the deepest hole ever dug by humans had been a project begun by the Soviet Union on the Kola Peninsula in Russia near Murmansk, which was later abandoned, and a project completed in the Al Shaheen oil field in Qatar in 2008. The Al Shaheen well was drilled by Transocean for Maersk Oil.
