How do you define "typhoon"?
By Forinfos - 26/11/2025 - 0 comments
A typhoon is a tropical storm that forms over warm ocean water and rotates around a central eye. A typhoon is another name for a hurricane.
Tropical storms are called typhoons in countries surrounding the western North Pacific Ocean, such as Japan, China and the Philippines. The same types of storms are called hurricanes in North America, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. A super typhoon is the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane. Typhoons frequently develop in the western North Pacific Ocean because this region of ocean is warm and atmospheric patterns are strong. Typhoons most often occur between June and November.
