Aluminum 6061 is an alloy of aluminum blended with magnesium and silicon. It was introduced in 1935 as a way to solve the need for medium-strength products that were heat-treatable. Its moderate strength and easy fabrication made it possible for the alloy to replace steel in certain market sectors, unlike the harder aluminum-copper alloy, which was more difficult to produce and mold.
