How dependable is radiant floor heating?

Radiant floor heating is very dependable and can be extremely efficient at heating a home. Radiant floor heaters come in two distinct forms: hot water and electric heating. In both systems, hot water or heated wire release heat from within a unit along the baseboards in a room.

Unlike standard compressed air heater that circulates air that eventually falls as it cools, radiant floor heating using heated resistance wire or polyurethane tubing that circulates hot water. Hot water styles are more expensive to install, up to $15 per square foot, but are more effective than electric models. Once installed, a radiant floor heater can be up to 30 percent more effective than traditional forced-air heating.
